Sustainability reports ought to be key channels for communication with stakeholders, enhancing organisational accountability and transparency. However, the proliferation of sustainability metrics and the voluntary nature of reporting leads to inconsistencies in the quality of sustainability reporting, invariably affecting its functionality and effectiveness. This research project investigates the quality and functionality of sustainability reporting within the South African gold mining sector. Firstly, a framework for characterising and subsequently assessing the quality of sustainability reports was developed based on a review and analysis of the published literature. This framework was then applied in a multi-method approach consisting of a desktop review involving a content analysis of three company reports that disclose performance according to the GRI G4 Guidelines, and semi-structured interviews with key internal and external stakeholders. The analysis shows that while sustainability reports in the South African mining sector have been found to have beneficial functions for both internal and external stakeholders, they also presented quality issues that are both technical and socio-political in nature. More specifically, the study found that sustainability reports are used internally at an executive level and that the reporting process enhances organisational transparency and accountability. Externally, sustainability reports were found to be used as a source of performance information and as an indicator of company commitment and legitimacy. However, the quality issues, namely levels of aggregation and detail, as well as the degree of integrity, were considered to have a negative effect on the functionality and effectiveness of sustainability reports for stakeholders. This study offers insight into how companies report and how stakeholders perceive and relate to sustainability reporting, and in turn serves to highlight both strengths that should be encouraged, and weaknesses that detract from sustainability reports' effectiveness and functionality. The application of a multi-criteria framework in a multi-method approach provides a more holistic picture of the quality and functionality of sustainability reports, allowing technical and political quality issues to be discussed in a simultaneous study, as well as highlighting the complexities and nuances of sustainability reporting.

El autor narra su experiencia al celebrar el 38 aniversario del martirio del P. Rutilio Grande en el lugar donde ocurrió este acontecimiento. Él comenta: "El pasado 12 de marzo que se celebró el 38 aniversario de la lamentable pérdida del padre Rutilio, fueron muchísimas las personas que se concentraron en el lugar en donde un grupo de militares vestidos de civiles asesinaron a Rutilio, junto a Manuel Solórzano, de 72 años y adolescente Nelson Rutilio Lemus, de 16 años. En el lugar, hoy en día se ha levantado un monumento donde hay tres cruces, simbolizando cada una a aquellos tres hombres salvadoreños asesinados en manos de la injusticia y la perversión por el pecado. Y es en este mismo lugar donde además se cantaron himnos, se reflexionó sobre la vida y legado de Rutilio y se hizo una oración muy al estilo de la vida comunitaria o campesina, y se salió posteriormente en procesión hacia la parroquia de Agüitares. En el trayecto hubo muchos cantos, frases y reflexiones alusivas a Rutilio; fueron varios los kilómetros recorridos; sin embargo, niños, adolescentes, jóvenes y adultos caminaron con mucha alegría y devoción a celebrar una misa en memoria de nuestro querido pastor y mártir".

[EN] Integration of renewable energy sources require an increase in the flexibility of power systems. Demand response is a valuable flexible resource that is not currently being fully exploited. Small and medium industrial consumers can deliver a wide range of underused flexibility resources associated with the electricity consumption in their production processes. Flexible resources should compete in liberalized operation markets to ensure the reliability of the system at a minimum cost. This paper presents a new tool to assist industrial demand response to participate in operation markets and optimize its value. The tool uses a combined physical-mathematical modelling of the industrial demand response and a Parallel Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm specifically tuned for the proposed problem to maximize the profit. The main advantages of the proposed tool are demonstrated in the paper through its application to the participation of a meat factory in the Spanish tertiary reserve market during a whole year using a quarter-hourly time resolution. The enhanced performance of the proposed tool with respect to previous methodologies is shown with these four flexible processes examples, where the maximum available profit obtained in the simultaneous consideration of all different flexible processes is computed. [EN] A transition to a sustainable energy system is essential. In this context, smart grids represent the future of power systems for efficiently integrating renewable energy sources and active consumer participation. Recently, different studies were performed that defined the conceptual architecture of power systems and their agents. However, these conceptual architectures do not overcome all issues for the development of new electricity markets. Thus, a novel conceptual architecture is proposed. The transactions of energy, operation services, and economic flows among the agents proposed are carefully analysed. In this regard, the results allow setting their activities' boundaries and state their relationships with electricity markets. The suitability of implementing local electricity markets is studied to enforce competition among distributed energy resources by unlocking all the potential that active consumers have. The proposed architecture is designed to offer flexibility and efficiency to the system thanks to a clearly defined way for the exploitation of flexible resources and distributed generation. [EN] The European Union advocates for legislative support to local energy communities. Measures include the promotion of dynamic energy allocation and discriminatory electricity tariffs such as the recent Spanish framework. However, the impact of these normative changes is not yet evaluated. This paper inquires into the impact of dynamic allocation coefficient and different electricity tariffs on the profitability of local energy communities. To do so, a linear optimisation model is developed and applied to real consumer data in Spain around a variable capacity photovoltaic generation plant. Comparing the economic performance of the static or variable power allocation under the effect of changing electricity tariffs. While both measures are beneficial, the new electricity tariffs result in larger profitability increases than the planned variable coefficients. The combination of measures allows for profitability improvements of up to 25% being complementary measures. However, installations that maximise the potential for electricity generation are still not as profitable due to the low purchase price of surplus energy. Même si ces vocations historiques conservent toute leur importance et leur légitimité, elles ne suffisent plus à circonscrire la réalité des pratiques universitaires et encore moins les défis et interpellations auxquelles ces dernières sont de plus en plus confrontées. On pourrait citer en vrac et parmi d'autres le lien avec les enjeux de développement économique, la formation tout au long de la vie, la citoyenneté, la promotion de la culture scientifique et technique… mais, pour s'en tenir à la nature du présent ouvrage, on en retiendra plus particulièrement deux dimensions : l'ancrage territorial et la fonction de médiation. L'inscription territoriale car, dès lors que l'Université n'est pas ou plus « hors-sol », cela signifie bien qu'elle est « posée quelque part », et qu'elle y a ou y crée des racines l'ancrant dans un milieu socio-économique mais également culturel, historique, politique, urbain… Or, quand ce quelque part se trouve être un lieu aussi riche d'expériences et d'enjeux que la Villeneuve de Grenoble, se penser de part et d'autre comme ressource mutuelle relève autant de l'intérêt bien compris que de la responsabilité sociale.
